I got a very quick lesson in Photoshop today so I thought I'd try it out and play around with some of my ballet flats. I never knew how fun and addicting it could be! I could easily lose a day editing photos on this 'app'. Uh-oh!

The ones on top are my new glittery pair from Tutum shoes. Their great for Sundays ('church day') with a nice 'flowy' dress. Who said flats have to be horrid? I used to say I didn't have a decent pair of flats to take around with me, so thank you to Tutum for starting my flat shoes collection!

Though killer heels will always be my first love, I think that every girl needs a good pair of reliable flats. I wouldn't want to encourage anyone twisting their ankles walking the streets of Manila for the sake of fashion. And with the abundance of flat shoes out there nowadays, I'm sure it would be easy to find a pair that's right for you.

Classic, safe bets are always Chanel & Tory Burch flats but if your budget doesn't allow for such luxuries, there are many other options out there (as seen above). Bazaars are always a good place to find one-of-a-kind pieces.

Jeans are a staple to every wardrobe but not necessarily the easiest to piece to shop for. This is because there are so many options to choose from that fit different body types. So you really need to know what works best for you. A nice pair of jeans can really be so sexy and flattering on a woman.

If you have no idea where to start, you can always head to the malls and check out what's available and affordable for you. That's what I did when I heard Miss Sixty finally came to Manila. Robinson's Manila, to be exact. They are on the Ground floor across Mango - which is also where I got my glasses that same night.

If you wanna pull of an 'I was in a rush/carefree/sexy' outfit, then jeans are definitely a good option to go for. Just don't forget to try them on before you buy them!

Welcoming 2012

Just as Christmas was spent in the Uy residence, New Year's eve was no different. Well, aside from all the fireworks of course. Robbie, being the big kid that he is, was in charge of lighting up all the fireworks while 'Lau' and I watched from a distance.

Fact: I am afraid of fireworks. They are nice to watch from a distance but that's as close as my appreciation gets.

And just as every Filipino family has their traditions for the new year, we had ours too. Laureen wore a red dress with jade necklaces for good luck, while I wore a polka dot, orange top since it is said to be this year's lucky color. I also jumped at midnight in hopes that I might get a little bit taller. haha! Hey, don't ask me. I just figured it wouldn't hurt.

I tried to convince everyone to just stay in bed and watch dvds with me after the countdown since I was sick but I was outnumbered four to one. Next thing I knew I was in a sequined top ready for another night out in Manila. *see photos here* I really need to learn to stand my ground better! Oh well. I have a whole new year to work on that resolution. I hope this one sticks.

Juju Cleanse

Those of you who follow me on Twitter know that I recently tried this new cleanse called 'Juju Cleanse'. It's basically a juice detox that you substitute for meals under the duration of your cleanse that gives you a break from all the processed foods and alcohol we take in on a daily basis. This would have already caught my attention since I like to 'try' to be healthy from time to time - emphasis on the 'try'. But the additional weight loss potential I was told it provided didn't hurt either. haha!

I decided I'd give it a try and chose the three-day cleanse to see how I would fare without food for 72 hours. The thought may be scary, but it really isn't as bad as many of you would think. The juices they deliver are well enough to keep you full throughout the day that you won't be left starving. Every night, they send the bottles to your house along with an instruction sheet and a handy bag to carry around complete with icepack and mint leaves. I love that they did everything for me. All I really had to do was to drink. They took care of the rest.

This is what they look like. Each bottle is numbered 1 - 6 so you are able to stay on track.

As you can see, I brought the juice with me to our Valle Verde 5 garage sale with Divine Lee. This was when I was explaining my 'juju' experience to the 'Becky Nights' boys, drink in hand.

Now all the juices were very different in taste. Some were more vegetable-based, others, fruit. I didn't have any strong dislike for any of the juices but this 'lemon-y' one was definitely my favorite. It reminded me a lot of the master cleanse I did and felt less like a cleanse and more like juice.

Again, this is proof that I actually did the cleanse. haha! Many people wouldn't believe I actually withstood the challenge but I did. :) Here I am with Nix trying to get him to try the cleanse as well so that I would have moral support! haha!

Well, okay. I have to admit, I did cheat a little bit because due to circumstances I'd rather not divulge, I found myself needing to take medication and I was told it would not be smart for me to drink ibuprofen on an empty stomach, so I had crackers. :-s I know! I know I'm not supposed to eat but it was an unexpected situation in which I just really had to eat something.

Aside, from my little hiccup, I have to say that this cleanse really did make me feel lighter and more energized throughout the day as opposed to my usual 2 o'clock burn-out. Come late afternoon, I still had the energy to clean my room and was able to lift my bed all by myself. I usually need help changing the sheets but this time, I didn't.

If you guys are scared to commit to three days of no food, they do have a one day program that you can start with to see how you feel. Just like everything else, it's best to ease into a program like this so you don't shock your body going in and coming out of it.

I think I'll do this cleanse again right after the Christmas season, after all the Christmas goodies have settled and there is no more temptation in the house. It would be great to start the new year feeling refreshed and energized.

It happens to all of us. As the year starts we begin to accumulate stuff that just end up sitting around with no use. We get giveaways, freebies from stores, birthday gifts, and the occasional impulsive buy that we really have no use for. Does 'buy one, take one' ring a bell? It sure does for me.

At the end of every year I always like to de-clutter my room with the things I no longer find any use for. I am a bit of a hoarder so this process is a good annual 'cleanse' that gets rid of all the extra baggage I don't need. And in true hoarder fashion, it's just more of an excuse to make space for all the new stuff I plan to get this Christmas season! haha! Just don't tell anyone.

Divine seems to be more of a 'pro' at this than I am as she organized the whole thing. I was just a last-minute addition or what many would call "saling-kit". Divine did everything from renting our the space to organizing who would get each booth and then publicizing it to all her followers on Twitter. How she finds time to do this on top of her busy schedule, I'll never know. I'm just glad to have her doing it 'cause Lord knows I'd be a hot mess if I tried. So thank you to 'Div' & 'Vic' and the yayas who made this whole event possible!

Four years ago a pledge class was born - Pledge Class '07. We were the new sisters of Omicron Theta Chi Sorority. What started out as 11 individuals turned into one solid unit. We were unstoppable. Well, not really. As Murphy's Law would have it, we had a lot of glitches in our system but we had the one thing that truly mattered, each other.

Admittedly, in the beginning I was too proud to say I needed anyone of these girls to get me through pledging but it turns out I needed them more than I thought. These girls had my back through it all and picked up my slack when I couldn't go on. They literally carried my weight when I couldn't. They were there for me and in return, I for them. We became sisters.

As time would have it, our lives started to move in different directions. Some graduated and moved away, others stayed and just like anyone else, life got in the way. But be that as it may, I know for a fact that if I needed any of these girls once again they'd be there for me just like before. Because once a sister, always a sister.

Halloween is the one day in the year when everyone can dress wild and silly and get away with it. Well, almost...

Last year, I dressed as Barbie - naked barbie, that is. And you can imagine the looks I got. Everyone was taking second looks from afar, thinking I had gone and lost my mind and my clothes too. Although it looked like I really was naked from afar, nothing was actually showing.

What I wore: beige tights, beige body suit, pink pumps, and a blonde wig.

This year, I wanted to be Lady Gaga but since that entailed being even more naked, I opted to be Katy Perry instead.

My last-minute attempt to replicate her look. Not bad for just 2 hours prep. time! ;)

Ang laki lang ng heart ko! What can I say? I've got a big heart.

Girls Night In

On the rare occasion that us girls find the time to get together and unwind, we like to stay in and catch up. We've all been so busy lately we decided we all deserved a little pampering. So we decided to try Celebrity Nails Paranaque. I've called them before for myself but never for a group session so I was excited to have my girls try them too. I didn't want to hype anything up as I said I would have the service (shown below) speak for itself.

There isn't one thing these ladies forgot. All I had to do was show up.

I love nights like these with my girls because it's a great time to relax and unwind. We don't have to worry about transportation or looking cute since we're just at home. We can do as we please. The best part is that the nails stay that way for a long time and they're totally affordable.

Laureen Uy's Birthday

Some of you may already know that one of my best friends, Laureen Uy, just celebrated her birthday this past weekend. To show our our love, some of her closest friends were given the chance to join the Uy clan for a night of good food and laughs.

Since nothing was planned and it was all so last minute, not everyone was able to attend but I'm sure yung kakulitan namin ni Vice made up for it. We even forced Frank to do an impromptu song number for the birthday girl. The pictures speak for themselves. We all love 'Lau' and are so proud of her.

I wish her continuous blessings in her career, family life, love life and stronger friendships (like ours).

Last week Vice Ganda organized an outreach program to bring relief goods to the victims of Pedring in Bulacan. Among those invited were Ryan Bang, Georgina Wilson, Liz Uy, Frank Magalona, Laureen Uy, Eric Tai, Jon Hall and myself. We all met at Vice's place and packed almost 500 bags filled with canned goods, snacks and water. To streamline the process, we formed an assembly line. Ryan was in-charge of bags, Liz and I were in-charge of the canned goods, and Laureen and Georgina, the snacks. We all played on our capabilities. So obviously Jon and Eric did all the heavy lifting.

We all may be laughs and smiles before we arrived at our destination but in the back of heads we all knew that we were on a mission to help, even in the small way we can. After a long drive, we arrived in Bulacan and saw just how bad their situation was over there. They only had one generator for electricity and one rubber boat to send help to those trapped by the flood.

Admittedly, it was frustrating to see the conditions these people were living in for six days already. I wondered why it was taking so long to bring the people to safety when I see the news and know how fast rescue operations work in other countries. Surely, it doesn't have to last six days. But rather than focussing on the mismanagement of resources, we decided that we just do what we can with what we had at the time.

So we were driven to a school campus where 11-24 families shared one classroom as a living space. There we gave away our packed goods and took the time to meet the families and make them smile even for just a few minutes. Everyone was so excited to see Vice and I loved watching her entertain all the people. For about an hour we all forgot about the flood and just enjoyed each others' company.

I'm so thankful to have been able to lend a hand and help in my own little way.

I write this as a reminder that there is still much help needed in Bulacan and I'm sure they would appreciate any help you can give - old clothes, blankets, water, canned goods etc.

We are all one people and we shouldn't forget that.

Let's all lend a hand to those in need...

I don't think anyone ever really looks forward to a waxing session. There's always that ill feeling in your gut knowing that your about to go through some dreaded session. Well that feeling quickly faded when I stepped foot into Strip's Serendra branch (also located in Greenbelt 5). All the ladies were very warm and welcoming. And the cool deco helps too.

Even if patience isn't one of your virtues, you won't mind hanging out in their waiting area. They didn't even keep me waiting more than 5 minutes when my 'striperella' (waxer) came to escort me to my room.

These are just some of the many people who swear by Strip!

As usual, I was very chatty with my striperella as I wanted to find out more about their services and training. These ladies take their waxing seriously! It may be due to their intensive training from Singaporean professionals. I thought I knew everything I needed to know about waxing, but I was given so much new and helpful information on how to take care of my skin post-waxing.

If their clever ads don't catch your eye, their services surely will.

I loved the New York / London vibe of the entire place. I must say that the concept of the place was well thought out and very consistent.

Privacy. Very important!

They stayed true to their HSQ philosophy (Hygiene, Speed, and Quality). They work quickly and cleanly at that. Another waxing issue averted - the mess. I was in and out of there before I even knew it!

This was taken right when we arrived at CWC from Manila. What should have taken us 2 hours ended up to be 5 hours long. So forgive the haggard look.

When I travel, I try to stick with the 2 Cs:

And what's more comfy than a nightie?! Yes, I wore lingerie to the airport. If anything, it made going through security much less of a hassle. The only downside is that it gets cold on the plane. So bring a cardigan / jacket if you're gonna try this look.

By the way, I've noticed I have featured this ring quite often now. I guess I can say it's one of my favorites.

Charina really knows how to dress a woman. I love how this RTW dress fit perfectly. Sometimes when you get something from a hanger, it won't fit you quite right but that was not the case with this dress. I literally picked it up 2 hours before my event and it fit me like a glove which is such a relief since I'm not model thin. I wish I got a photo of this dress in action.
Whenever I walked, this dress flowed beautifully, making it seem like I was gliding.

Omega's Ladymatic Launch

Last week Omega launched the new Ladymatic watch at the Makati Shangri-la hotel and for a second I forgot I was in Manila. The LenPlus team transformed the ballroom into a pseudo Gossip Girl party.

From lighting to every centerpiece, not one detail went unattended...

The event was raved to be "incomparable to the New York launch".

Had I known how good these were before hand, I would have hugged the messenger!

Honda's Scoopy Launch

Last week I was invited by Honda to go check out their Scoopy scooters. I was quite excited to go because all throughout my college years I've always wanted to own a scooter. I pictured myself owning pastel-colored one with a basket in front and a cute helmet to boot. I thought it would be a cute way to reduce my emissions while I ran around town.

So I was pretty stoked when I heard that Honda was coming out with their own line of scooters for both men and women. I mean come on! How adorable is this pink one they had on display?

I wanted to hop on and drive off with this one but there were just a few problems.

1) I was in heels so I'd probably not even get very far if I tried to drive off.

2) I could get into a lot of trouble.

3) There wasn't a good escape route.

I had to judge these scooters and boy was it difficult. I mean who am I to say who did a better job designing the scooters and representing the school? I voted for my favorite but it's a good thing they also opened it up to public voting. *weight lifted off my shoulders*

In the end, I think these artists all did a great job executing their designs.

How to get smokey, emerald eyes by Joyce Platon

Here's another installment of our makeup tutorial shoot from a few weeks back. At first we did the 'perfect skin look' and now another crowd favorite - the smokey eye.

The first few steps are just the same as you get the base of your face done then move onto the eyes.

Eyeliner

Apply eyeliner on your upper lash line and smudge it up to your crease.
If you're going for a green smoky, for example, use the same eyeliner colour to smudge on your lid to make the colour pop.

-In this case, I used a black eyeliner because I wanted to make the green colour deeper than it actually is.

Apply eyeliner on the top and bottom inner rims (water line) of your eyes. This is what gives the unique, intense stare of the makeup look.

Eyeshadow

Choose your desired eyeshadow colour. Here I used emerald green as I know it will make brown eyes more attractive.
Apply the eyeshadow from lash line to the crease.
Take a clean dome-shaped eyeshadow blending brush and BLEND out the edges of your eyeshadow.

Follow steps 8-10 from the "How To Get The Perfect Face" blog for your mascara, lipstick, and blush.
Note: for the Smoky Eye makeup look, use NUDE or any lipstick shade that matches your lips. A light coloured pink blush is flattering for the entire look. Don't go overboard with your lips and blush as the focal point are your eyes.

Here are some of the items I scored at the Rockwell bazaar last week. There were so many things I just wanted to buy but good thing I gave myself a budget. That way I could limit my spending. It's nice to be savvy from time to time. It's all about making the most of what you already have in your closet and investing in pieces that you can wear more than once. I used to believe that repeating an outfit was a bad thing but it doesn't have to be if you mix and match it with other items.

The rainy weather we've had recently has made me wanna wear dark, comfy clothes that dry easily but can still keep me warm if needed. I have also recently developed a love for long, flowy skirts like this one. They are just so versatile. This is one of three Aleli Yap was kind enough to make for me this week. After church, Bianca invited Stef and I over for Sunday dinner. On the menu - home made pizza, pasta, and of course cupcakes! :-) Since I arrived late, my contribution was the wine. Always a safe bet at any dinner party!

This night was a first for us so Bianca and I decided to try to emulate Inah's cupcakes by having a piping battle. The objective was to see who could pipe the 'prettiest' frosting. It was a fail. We both had two attempts each and the results were quite unappetizing. Who knew frosting could look like 'poopookins'?! It's a good thing Inah baked 2 batches so we didn't have to eat our creations.

I think I've always wanted to own a satchel simply to say that I have a satchel. haha! If you say it out loud it does have a nice ring to it - satchel. Now how many of you actually said it out loud? I did. :)

I was choosing between a baby blue one and this red one and I decided to go with the red since I'd be able to match it with more things. Last Tuesday night I was in such a rush to get to the Kiehl's anniversary party that I didn't realize I didn't have anything to wear na. Thank goodness I was able to run to run to the mall and find this Cole Vintage bandage skirt. I love the color 'cause it stood out to me from outside the store so I had to run in and get it. Buti nalang they had one more in my size. I grabbed the black ring too 'cause I thought it would match my new Schutz heels.

When I'm in a rush, I try not to be too experimental since I know my judgement will be clouded but as I was trying to wear this beaded necklace. It wouldn't go past the crown of my head! So I decided to leave it there. haha! I know it sounds silly but it seemed to work.

Last Tuesday, Kiehl's celebrated there 160 years of providing excellent skin care products that have caught the attention and hearts of celebrities like Uma Thurman, Diane Kruger, Beyonce and many more. Locally, I know many people in the industry who swear by Kiehl's products too. I myself am one of them. So naturally I was psyched to be able to attend their event and support the brand.

I first heard about Kiehl's about two years ago when my friend's started raving about all their products. However, it wasn't until last month that I was really sold on them when I slept over Yanee's house and used her Calendula Toner. I woke up the next morning loving my skin. My face felt so clean and not greasy at all. It was then perfect for me to open the gift bag from Kiehls and find that my favorite toner was part of the package! I actually just used it again tonight as I type this entry. ;)

Another one of the products I tried in their giveaway bag was the Ultra Facial Cream. Simply for the name itself I was immediately curious and intrigued. I have a little bit of an obsession with moisturizers because I have a really bad habit of not drinking enough water during the day. So I try to make up for it by piling on the moisturizers late at night. I know it's no substitute but it seems to be doing okay for the mean time. Anyway, I loved the facial cream they gave me 'cause I really felt like my skin was hydrated and plump the next morning. Better yet, it wasn't even oily. I think I'm gonna start using it every night and see if the long term results are just as favorable.

On this day I had a shoot with makeup artist Joyce Platon for her blog. It was my first time working with photographer Cholo dela Vega and his team or doing anything like this kind of shoot. So I was a little nervous coming into the studio but that immediately left my mind once I got to warm up to everyone. Everyone was really laid back and so talented which is a great surrounding to immerse yourself in if you crave inspiration like me. Also, I love learning new tricks from photographers since I've never taken a class a day in my life. Cholo taught me how to 'bali' (break) my shoulders to give the photos more dimension. It was so cool 'cause now I can use that information with my other shoots! I'll post photos soon and show you what I mean. It's quite difficult but just keep practicing in the mirror like I do! haha! :p

Anyway, I wanted to say thank you to Kathy from Kandi Treats for sending me these awesome Jelly Beans to add to my wardrobe. In case you guys haven't already heard about these, they're a very versatile accessory to have. You can wear them 10 ways or more (belt/ hair tie/ necklace/ headband/ bag charm etc.) Today I chose to use it as a bracelet since I just love piling them on. What do you guys think? The Golden Years

I'm a 'sucker' for weddings.

If there's any occasion that you would catch me crying it would be this. I can never seem to hold back my tears especially during the 'vows'. Yes. Sad to say, but I'm THAT girl who sits in front and looks like a fool with mascara running down her cheeks and toilet paper in hand. I can admit this confidently because I know for sure that I'm not the only one. But maybe this is a sign for me to start investing in waterproof mascara.

Anyway, I wanted to share this with you guys since I thought the production of the entire event was just so tasteful and dream-like that it deserved recognition.

to the flower arrangements - not one thing seemed to be out of place.

Even the food was great! My favorite was the foie gras.

I couldn't help but wish for a wedding as fabulous when the time comes.

So Fresh and So Clean

New discovery:

Clean's 'Shower Fresh' scent stay true to its name as it keeps me smelling 'shower fresh' for hours.

I learned about this product from a good friend, Carla Humprhries, recently and tried it out. It's actually very different from the light, fruity scents I usually go for but it's refreshing to change things up a bit.

Taal Volcano

Last weekend I decided to put my plans into action when I finally decided to go see 'the world's smallest active volcano'. It may not be very obvious but I do enjoy adventures like these since it's such an escape from the hustle and bustle of my city life. More recently, I've been meeting visiting tourists who seem to have explored more of the Philippines than I have. And it's so sad to say that I grew up in a country and haven't seen it's picturesque wonders. For example, I haven't seen tarsiers or the Chocolate Hills or the Rice Terraces and the list goes on and on. So I've decided to changed all that. From now on, I'm gonna make an effort to explore more of the Philippines and share it with you guys too. Sound good?

So first on this list of adventures was the easiest accesible: Taal Volacano - just about a two hour drive from Manila. Since our trip was very spontaneous and last minute, we didn't have time to search for the cheapest package deals that I'm sure you can find if you planned it better than I did.

I really wish I had video recorded myself going up this mountain 'cause you would have all laughed at me. I was so nervous and scared the whole time 'cause I kept picturing my horse going crazy and kicking me off his back. I guess I was just really paranoid from all the stories I hear of people falling off horses and breaking their bones or even worse, becoming paralyzed! Thank God nothing bad happened with my horse other than the fact that he kept wanting to stop and eat or poop. haha!

As you can see from the photos, the weather was very temperamental as it rained one minute and then shined the next. However, that really didn't stop me from enjoying the whole experience. Regardless of being completely drenched and muddy, I had the biggest smile on my face at the end of it all.

I was finally able to sit back, relax and enjoy the view from all the stressing and butt-clenching donkey ride!

The Breakdown:

2 hour drive from Manila - 10 minute boat ride from Taal Yacht Club to Taal Volcano - 30 minute donkey ride up the mountain and another 30 downhill.

This article I found described perfectly what we experienced there as well:

"A twenty minute (each way) round trip boat journey to Taal Volcano will set you back 1,250 to 1,500 Pesos, approximately US$25 to US$30 depending on you're bargaining ability. But that's for the entire boat, not per person. Then you're hit with the cost of hiring a donkey (once you reach Taal Volcano) to take you to the top, then back down. Unless you're in very good physical condition, the hiring of a donkey is highly recommended. This runs around 1,000 pesos per donkey, less than US$18.

As with most tourist destinations throughout the world, there is no shortage of touts here. You'll see them holding up signs that say, " Boat Trip To Volcano " or similar. Most are honest but will certainly try their best to extract the maximum pesos they can from you. Though most visitors use them, we recommend that you hire (additional cost) an authorized tour guide who can point out the pertinent facts along with excellent and useful information. They all speak excellent English and we found them to be more than helpful and worth the small cost of using their services. These guides have official picture ID badges which can easily be verified with the local authorities." (Taal Volcano, Tagatay.com)

Some advice:

1. If you're gonna go, go with friends so that you can maximize the boat fare.

2. Ride the donkeys if you're not very athletic but be prepared to have a sore butt the day after.

3. Don't buy the masks the locals sell you. It's such a rip-off and you won't even need it or use it.

4. Go early in the day so you can take your time and enjoy the whole experience.

5. Bring small change to tip the locals who help you on your journey.

6. You can bring your own drinks/ snacks but you can also buy there. It's up to you.

7. Take lots of pictures and tell me about your trip!

We have a superstition here in the Philippines that goes a little like this: If you give someone a pair of shoes, it's unlucky ('malas') because they will walk out of your life. So to avoid the curse, the recipient must in-turn give coins to the 'giver'. And since I'm not one to be taking any chances, I did just that. It's a good thing there's nothing about not being able to blog about them, right? So check out my new 'kicks'! I can't wait to finally rock them this coming week. I'm sure I can easily find a place and outfit to wear them with.

Fever Luxe Lounge w/ Chef Jose Luis Gonzalez

Fever Luxe Lounge at Sofitel presents an afternoon of private degustation for Manila's bloggers prepared by chef Jose Luis Gonzalez...

For those who may not know, chef Jose Luis Gonzalez is a world-renowned chef who has worked in some of the top restaurants in the world, such as El Bulli, Mugaritz, Arzak and El Celler de Can Roca. And now he has joined forces with Manila's top restauranteurs to bring you the exquisite offerings of Fever's contemporary French menu.

You can see then how I couldn't turn down an invitation for a private degustation with the chef himself. I, along with a few other bloggers, were fortunate enough to try some of their dishes last Friday afternoon. I have to admit that I didn't even know Fever was open in the afternoons. It was quite surreal to enter the place before night fall. However, Fever was able to stay true to it's vibe with 'lounge-y' music and rich interiors.

As I recall the meal we had, I can feel my tummy grumbling, craving for more of Fever's food. Needless to say, everything we had was delicious. Every dish had a play on both texture and taste - a great combination, if you ask me. Nothing was as I expected. I liked chef Luis Gonzalez's unorthodox French cuisine 'cause it really is like nothing I've ever had before. Plate after plate I found myself pleasantly surprised. Even the plating and presentation of every dish was so distinct and different from one to the next, showing the amount of thought put into every detail. This excited a lot of the bloggers since they didn't even had to try to make the dishes look good. The food almost looked too good to eat. Almost. But of course, that didn't stop us from devouring every morsel served.

With the many courses served, one would assume that we'd all be begging off by the 4th dish. However, the perfectly-sized portions were just enough to keep us wanting more and then end up being perfectly satisfied at the very end.

This lobster salad surprised everyone when it was announced that it had bougainvillea flowers in it. Apparently, not only does it make for beautiful aesthetics in the hotel's gardens but also a great addition to this salad.

All the textures in this dish were just so exciting to eat. First of all, the meat was cooked perfectly. My knife cut through it with barely any tension. Then the pineapples wrapped in these crispy noodles gave the right balance of savory and sweet with just a hint of chocolate sprinkled on top.

My favorite part of any meal - dessert! And boy did it not disappoint. I loved this dessert because to begin with it's something completely new and strange to me which ignited my curiosity. It wasn't too sweet. So I could eat the whole bowl without feeling too guilty about it. The extra cookie crumbles on top kept the dish interesting and fun. And who has even heard of beer ice cream?! I for sure haven't. I think that dish on it's own made it for me.

This wasn't on our menu, but when it came out jaws literally dropped. Everyone was so amused to see a dessert smoking and bubbling. This was not only fun to watch, but the pineapples with the raspberry sorbet was the prefect palette cleanser before our final dish.

If my entry was not an indication enough, I absolutely LOVED the food at Fever Lounge. Chef Luis Gonzalez's reputation was a perfect indication of my dining experience in this establishment. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a dining experience that is truly world-class.

I also skimmed the menu to see the price points of their dishes and they were reasonably affordable. Nothing stuck out to be over-priced. I would suggest this would be a great place for people to dine if you were going on a date, celebrating an occasion, or meeting clients/ associates. This would also be a great spot to eat for a girl's night out as they too serve cocktails with a fully stocked bar.

I now wish I had my birthday dinner here! Had I known how great the food was here, I definitely would have brought some friends to join me in enjoying all this yummy food.

Pidol's Wonderland

A couple of weeks back I accepted a guest appearance on TV5's Pidol's Wonderland not really knowing much about my role or who I'd be working with. So I had good reason to be nervous showing up on set.

I arrived at 7:30am and took a nap in our dressing room while waiting for the rest of the cast/crew to arrive. An hour into my nap I hear a familiar voice that woke me. I opened my eyes to see 'Jaz' (Jasmine Curtis) standing by my bedside and for 2 seconds we both just stared at each other in disbelief. Then when reality hit us, we both screamed and hugged each other like it's been years since we last saw each other. Needless to say, we were both pretty excited to be working together. From then on, the whole day felt like a big reunion with people I've worked with in the past (JC de Vera, Alwyn Uytingco, Direk Erik Quizon and his crew).

Before I show you the photos, I'll just explain a little of the plot for you to better understand what went on. Basically I was the queen married to the king (Alwyn) until I discovered that he was a playboy. This turns me evil and I cast a spell on him to turn him into a beast until he finds true love with a commoner (Jasmine) who later takes my throne and his as well. In the end Jasmine and JC's love overcome all challenges and they rule the land happily ever after.

Birthday haze

If you asked me how it feels to be 22, I wouldn't even know how to grasp the thought. I have never really felt any pressure or stress about my age since people always tell me I'm still so young. So this was the first birthday I got a "ang tanda mo na" greeting. :-( I think that greeting hit me that I'm starting to grow up.

Though I can't say I'm too excited to be getting older, I can say that I am looking forward to the new experiences and adventures I have before me. So on 'my' day I decided to focus on the good in my life and everything I have to be thankful for...

For a change of pace, I decided to just have simple night in to play board games. The theme of the night was 'laid back'. No pressure. No dress code. No formal invites. What I thought would be a chill night with 8 people turned out to be 20. Any attempt to wrangle everyone up for a game of Scattergories was done in vain. It took us 30 minutes to play 2 rounds. So we just gave up and stuck to dancing, drinking, and 'dougie-ing' - proof that nothing went as planned.

I can't divulge everything that happened that night, but here's what I can show you...

I love my new Naked palette by Urban Decay. It provides a variety of shades that allows me to adjust my look from day to night without the hassle of having to bring around so many little containers. This would be a great addition if your looking to jazz up your look without going too crazy with colors.

Whenever I'm short on time, which is practically always, I rely on this palette to adjust my make-up in accordance to the occasion. I can go from fresh and dewy to smokey in just seconds.

The only problem is that Urban Decay no longer sells their products here in Manila. So you really have to keep an eye out during bazaars to snag one before they run out. The last time I heard they were selling them in the bazaar in Ortigas.

If that's too much of a hassle, then you can ask a friend/ 'Balikbayan' to buy you one abroad like I did. I'm sure you could find them online as well but I'm not sure how reliable online shopping is in Manila.

Regardless of the inconvenience of finding this palette, it's definitely a good staple to have in every girl's 'kikay kit'.

Almost everyone knows what a big event the annual Preview Ball is, and if you don't come prepared (like I didn't), you might as well not go. This was my dilemma exactly as I scrambled through my closet, throwing things around trying to find anything that emulated the 70s. Then just as all hope was gone, I decided to be crazy and throw on my hippie maillot with a pair of bellbottoms I had lying around. Don't ask... :-s

Why then, you would wonder, did I decide to be so last-minute with my preparations?

Well, the short version would be that I was supposed to be out of town / working on this night 'til it was cancelled the night before. I then figured What the hell? I'm free and all my friends will be there. So why not?!

As can be seen from the photos everyone really went all out for our revisit to Studio 54. It was quite refreshing to have everyone 'groovin'' to the hits from the 70s. The only thing missing would be the vocabulary that came with. Ignoring the fact that I was so unprepared, I'm happy I got to see all my friends again after being a hermit for a couple of weeks.
